dala’s Streetlight Initiative facilitates street children to creatively explore their lived reality and build alternatives for the future. Using art as a catalyst, dala explores a child-centered approach to re-imagine city spaces - for children, by children. dala has worked with a number of streetlights in both Durban and Johannesburg since 2004.

In 2009, dala received financial support from the National Arts Council (NAC). Working with Umthombo, dala developed a series of workshops unpacking the notion of ‘home’. Using charcoal, pastel, paint and disposable cameras, the workshops focused on re-imagining the concept of ‘home’. Recently dala has linked up with Momentum Arts and the 2010 Street Child World Cup.
